Chest Physiotherapy

The chest physical therapy as a tributary to the treatment of children suffering from acute pneumonia. Chest physical therapy has been and still is widely applied to these patients in paediatric practice based on potential benefits in extracting inflammatory exudates and tracheobronchial secretions, removing any obstructions to the airway, reducing airway resistance, enhancing gas exchange and reducing the work of breathing.

Procedure

  • The child is put into different positions so that mucus can be effectively moved
  • Different areas of the chest wall are percussed to help loosen and move the mucus toward the centre of the chest.
  • Percussion is performed for 2 minutes in every totally different position.
  • Perform two to three huff coughs between each position, if your child is old enough.
  • Repeat until all different positions are complete.
