For Children

  • Steam inhalation can provide immediate relief.
  • Visit your doctor.
  • Always make sure the vaporizer/inhaler is held at a safe distance from the child.
  • HOPE recommends that mother and baby take steam together to prevent heat burns.

Avoid dust gathering items such as soft toys, carpets, blankets, furry pets as these are often triggers

  • Avoid clothes which are very tight fitting.
  • Avoid zipped pants in children under 6 years. If zipped pants are worn, ensure undergarments are also worn.

Ear drops often don’t provide relief from ear pain. Nose drops and pain killers are more effective.

Ear buds should not be used to clear the ear canal as they can damage the ear drum. They can be used to clean the outer ear.
